Computer Forensics
Computer Forensics is the scientific gathering
of computer data by a recognised expert in accordance with non invasive,
pre-defined procedures and utilising recognised methodologies that
will ensure the findings will be admissable as evidence in a court
of law.
It is increasingly being used by Law Enforcement Agencies, employers
and private investigators as another tool in their armoury to catch
people they suspect.
Every day billions of bytes of computer data are transferred between
computers, most of it being transferred for legitimate reasons.
However, it is now accepted that computers have become valuable
tools in the planning and execution of criminal activities and those
perpetrating such activities are using all means possible to hide
their traces. However, each piece of data has its own individual
and very unique fingerprint, which can be captured and identified
by the use of computer forensics tools and techniques.
